Open Day—Again today you’re free to explore Boston with your parent or grandparents. “The Sons of Liberty Throw a Tea Party” optional tour is “family-friendly” and a fun way to learn about Boston’s role in the American Revolution. Boston’s Museum of Science is another great attraction you won’t want to miss.

11:30 am - 4:00 pm

Optional Tour—The Sons of Liberty Throw a Tea Party!

Discover how some discontented colonists sparked the American Revolution!

  • The Old South Meeting House tells the inspiring story of how the colonists’ protest of British rule and demand for free speech began with the Townshend Act of 1767, was enflamed by the Boston Massacre in 1770, and culminated with the Boston Tea Party in 1773. (Learn more at www.oldsouthmeetinghouse.org.)
  • The Old State House also played a prominent role in the American Revolution. Explore two floors of exhibits and interactive displays geared to families with children. (Learn more at www.bostonhistory.org/?s=osh or www.revolutionaryboston.org.)
  • Aboard the floating Tea Party Ships Museum you’ll meet colonists, explore authentically restored ships, and even dump some tea–as the Sons of Liberty did one fateful night in December of 1773. View the stirring documentary, “Let It Begin Here,” enjoy a spot of tea, and browse in the gift shop! (Learn more at www.bostonteapartyship.com.)

(Travel takes 10 minutes each way; have lunch beforehand; wear comfortable shoes; not suitable for children under 5.)

The Old State House isn’t accessible by wheelchair or scooter.
