The Effect of Repair/Rewinding on Motor Efficiency
Publication date:
December 2003 Based on a joint study by EASA and the Association of Electrical and Mechanical Trades (AEMT) of the United Kingdom, this publication concludes that using best repair/rewind practices maintains motor efficiency. Besides an Executive Summary, the report provides complete test data, extensive background information about test procedures and methodology, information about best practice repair/rewind procedures, resources for further reading, and an entire chapter on repair/replace considerations.
EASA Standard AR100-2006: Recommended Practice for the Repair of Rotating Electrical Apparatus
Publication date:
May 2006 This American National Standards Institute approved document provides a comprehensive set of guidelines for the repair of rotating electrical apparatus. If you require quality repair work, make sure the firm that does your work follows this recommended practice.
Guidelines for Maintaining Motor Efficiency During Rebuilding
Publication date:
September 1999 This article provides guidelines that service centers can follow to retain the operating efficiency of the electric motors they rewind and rebuild. It includes a list of DOs & DON'Ts, safe values, and correct procedures that are based on studies of variables that can impact the efficiency of rewound electric motors--e.g., core burnout temperature, winding design, bearing type, air gap and winding resistance. (Note: The article was first published in May 1992. It was revised by EASA's Technical Services Committee in September 1999.)

EASA Energy Policy
The members of the Association recognize the conservation of energy is of extreme importance. Members will strive to ensure that the methods, techniques and materials they use to service and rebuild rotating electrical machines will maintain or improve their energy efficiency, whenever possible. As an international organization, this Association and its members shall be energy conservation advocates throughout the world. They will develop and promote proactive strategies to increase the public awareness of the compelling need for energy conservation. Through the formation of strategic alliances with other organizations, this Association will work to see that practical and effective legislation is enacted to conserve and safeguard our energy resources. The Association shall establish itself as a leading resource for knowledge and information dealing with electrical energy utilization and conservation in the rebuilding of rotating electrical machines.
EASA Environmental Policy
The preservation of our environment is of major importance to the members of the Association. Members will conduct their business activities so as to preserve and, in all ways practical, to improve our environment by eliminating or reducing the amount of pollutants they release into the environment. When the members handle or dispose of known pollutants, they will always do so by approved methods using approved disposal sites. The Association will continue to develop and promote proactive strategies to increase the members' awareness of the need to reduce pollutants produced by their businesses and to handle these pollutants only by recognized and approved methods.
Motor Decisions Matter
Motor Decisions MatterSM is a national public-awareness campaign sponsored by a consortium of electric utilities, industry trade associations, and others. MDM and its sponsoring organizations provide support for companies interested in motor management in the following ways:
- Tools: guides that outline the basic components of effective motor management, and spreadsheets that allow users to complete simple, "back of the envelope" calculations of life cycle cost analysis.
- Webcasts: users can participate in online informational events that cover the basics of motor management and demonstrate how to use MDM tools.
- Information: direction to helpful resources about topics such as energy legislation, motor repair, motor selection, and DOE and EPA resources.
