Troubleshooting Guide For Windows Installations of EASA's How To Wind Three-Phase Stators
Problem
There is no audio or video.
Solution
The free Apple Quicktime Player is required to play the audio and video included on the CD-ROM. Apple QuickTime can be downloaded for free from: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download
Windows 2000 users: Windows 2000 is no longer supported by the latest version of Apple QuickTime. Users with Windows 2000 should download Apple QuickTime 7.1.6 which can be found here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime716forwindows.html
Problem
Error message: The setup program has completed with the following error(s): An error occured copying the file How_To_Wind_Three-Phase_Stators.exe. JAR entry installData/How_To_Wind_Three-Phase_Stators.exe not found ...
Solution
Early versions of the How To Wind Three-Phase Stators software had compatibility problems with versions of the Windows operating system using non-standard English characters. This problem has been corrected. Contact Craig Whitworth for assistance if you are encountering this error.
Problem
Error message: "The QuickTime Player Java components could not be located or copied to the target location. Please view the instructions to learn how to set up QuickTime."
Solution
During some installations, the How To Wind Three-Phase Stators software may fail to copy the file "QTJava.zip."
Follow this procedure to correct this problem: Using Windows Explorer, look at the contents of these two folders. Each folder should contain a file called "QTJava.zip".
- C:\Program Files\How To Wind\jre\lib\ext
- C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem
If the "QTJava.zip" file is missing: Copy the "QTJava.zip" file from C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem to the C:\Program Files\How To Wind\jre\lib\ext folder.
Problem
The software will not run on Windows 7.
Solution
Read this procedure for running some older software on Windows 7.
Problem
The software runs on Windows 7, but I get a Quicktime Plugin error and the audio and video will not play.
Solution
When installed on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine, the How To Wind software may not be able to locate where Quicktime is installed on your hard drive. Windows 7 64-bit operating systems have a "Program Files" folder AND a "Program Files x86" folder. EASA's How To Wind software looks for Quicktime only in the "Program Files" folder, not the "Program Files x86" folder.
To fix this problem, you can try the following:
Using Windows Explorer, look at the contents of these two folders. Each folder should contain a file called "QTJava.zip".
• C:\Program Files\How To Wind\jre\lib\ext
• C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem (If this folder is not found, look in C:\Program Files x86\QuickTime\QTSystem)
If the "QTJava.zip" file is missing: Copy the "QTJava.zip" file from C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem (or C:\Program Files x86\QuickTime\QTSystem) to the C:\Program Files\How To Wind\jre\lib\ext folder.
Restart the How to Wind software.
