Technicians are sometimes introduced to magnetic quantities and materials informally over time as they are trained. This webinar will introduce the attendee to basic magnetic circuits and magnetic materials encountered in rotating machines more formally.
Although unbalanced magnetic pull can affect other rotating electric machines such as DC motors and generators and single-phase motors and generators, our focus in this article will be on three-phase squirrel cage induction motors. The two main topics are unbalanced magnetic pull (UMP) and rotor pullover.
Adhering to a few specific management styles can improve leadership effectiveness. A good leader recognizes the importance of employing the right management style at the right time to increase productivity, boost morale, encourage retention and manage crisis.
Determining the source of noise in a motor is often much more challenging than correcting it. However, a methodical approach to investigating the noise can narrow down the possible causes.
One of the most briskly debated issues in our industry is the comparison – and procedures for – vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) versus dip & bake. For this article, the discussion has been expanded to include trickle epoxy and B-stage coils.
High potential (hipot) testing procedures for motor and generator windings are usually performed with 50/60 Hz AC or DC as the power source. Hipot testing is a critical step in validating the quality of new windings. AC and DC hipot tests are also useful to understand the condition of aged insulation for machines in service. The disadvantage of the AC test at power frequency is when the size of the test set and/or complexity of the setup becomes problematic in motor repair and in the field. And the DC test stresses the end turns more. The very low frequency (VLF) test set has been successfully used to bridge the test gap between AC and DC hipot tests.
Accountability. Sure, it’s a common buzzword in today’s business world. But have you given much thought about what it really means and how it’s important for success?
This presentation provides an overview of common predictive technologies and information about applying them correctly.
Relevant standards including IEC 60085 and IEEE 1 have similar definitions for electrical insulating materials (EIM) and electrical insulation systems (EIS). As with any system, there is an interaction between the materials used, and the insulation system developers take great care to ensure that this interaction does not lead to undesirable outcomes.
The electrical apparatus service, sales and repair industry seems to have peaks and valleys when it comes to repairs, no matter your business’s size or location. When working in outside sales with my family’s service center a long time ago, we looked to balance this inconsistent workload with more services and repairs still centered around the electric motor.
This 40-page booklet provides great advice for obtaining the longest, most efficient and cost-effective operation from general and definite purpose electric motors.
This booklet covers topics such as:
